Below are some of our most favorite artists including ones that we’ve had the privilege of working with, good friends, and associated acts! We wouldn’t put them on here if we didn’t think they were the dopest of dope. If you’re already a fan of anything from OGP, we’re sure you’ll get into our homies! Do yourself a favor and check out the following!

AUSTIN KOLB BAND

Spotify | Facebook

AKB is love. AKB is happiness. AKB is what you want when you need the really good, top-shelf vibes.  They manage to create the calmness of an ocean view and the peacefulness of a sunny day and put it right into your soul - and for a group of Missouri boys, they do it exceedingly well. Our hometown brothas have been a staple in the Mid-MO reggae scene for going on a decade now but the music they’ve been producing is truly timeless; with an ear to the past and a voice for the present. Along with being a killer reggae force, Austin can be found delving into jazzier worlds on solo pursuits while other members have been known to experiment with hiphop and rap projects.

An earlier iteration of BGatF first played with AKB in 2012. Since then, the two bands have been featured collaborating together in Vox Magazines’ #JamTime as well as on stage together countless times. Whether Austin is lending his soft, soulful voice or providing some mouth trumpet (a site definitely worth catching live), they continue to be a favorite feature of BGatF. In addition, AKB percussionist Brandon Phillips leads as BGatF’s primary drummer.

BONGO JAK

Spotify | Facebook

Bongo Jak just might be one of the hardest working musicians you can come across. He also might be one of the most memorable. You might see him solo with his loop machine or perhaps as part of a duet or even a full ensemble. If you’re really lucky, you might get to catch him performing with dancers from The Dancing Bear Tribe who put on a performance so visually mesmerizing that you didn’t even realize your beer already got warm. Bongo Jak uses whatever he has at his fingertips to bring you not just a show, but a whole experience. Musically, his grooves have more of a reggae touch but you’d be mistaken to put him in any one box alone. Bongo Jak hails from St. Louis but you can catch him just about anywhere throughout the midwest and beyond at festivals, venues, restaurants, bars, and parlors alike. Keep an eye out to catch one of the coolest and most unique shows you’ll find. He’ll be sure to be in your neighborhood before long if he isn’t already.

CATDADDY’S FUNKY FUZZ-BUNKER BAND

Spotify | Facebook

When you need a thiccc ensemble, with layered harmonies, upbeat grooves, and whimsical antics then you NEED a healthy dose of Catdaddy’s Funky Fuzz-Bunker Band…or just Catdaddy’s for anyone else who has trouble remembering psychedelic cat band names. Catdaddy’s has been prowling around on the scene for a handful of years now and have been steadily growing in size as well as grooviness. These funky felines will bust anything out from a didgeridoo to a euphonium and will even get your booty shaking to a live ministry praising the one, true FUNK. You’d be a fool for good lovin’ not to give these doods a listen (or a treat).

Amongst this host of furry friends is BGatF’s keyboardist Kevin Jerez as well as bassist Jordan Tucker.

Spillie Nelson.jpg

SPILLIE NELSON

Spotify | Facebook

Spillie Nelson is another one of our favorite groups based out of the St. Louis area. These groovy, tie-dye brothas come together as a musical family and pour out straight, unfiltered, musical happiness. Having a bad day? Listen to Spillie Nelson. Having a good day that doesn’t need to get any better at all? Listen to Spillie Nelson. Their energy is as bright and colorful as the threads they jam in and they can only add to your day’s mood. Spillie’s mission is to make you move your feet - and with a mixture of blues, rock, and reggae all coated in a delectable jam sauce, you’ll definitely be dancing all night long.

THE STONE SUGAR SHAKEDOWN

Spotify | Facebook

If there was a musical way to define feeling good combined with that feeling of anticipation or excitement from not knowing what’s going to happen next, The Stone Sugar Shakedown would be at the top of the list.  SSS makes music that just feels good.  And it makes YOU feel good.  And it makes you feel like you’re traveling somewhere like a good book - even if you have been locked up in your bedroom for the past three days.  Whether they’re getting funky, folky, bluesy, or somewhere in-between, their music is sure to hit.  HARD.  Especially live. The level of musicianship between band members only adds to the experience.  If you’re looking for music that predictably drones on and is better suited for a new Toyota commercial then look elsewhere.  SSS will take you on a ride far from what you could get in the luxury edition of a Corolla.  If you think it’s gonna be a straight path, you’d be wrong.  SSS is known to take detours all over the map.  There’s a good chance you’ll get your samba/mombo/salsa dance on to the likes of “Gangle Fandango” and then quickly move to shaking yo booty to “Margaret’s Song” or “You Think You Know”.  Need some grooves to relax to?  Check out “Island Breeze” or “River Song”.  No matter what you’re looking for, you’ll be sure to find it in SSS’s catalog.

Surco.jpg

SURCO

Spotify | Facebook

Surco categorically falls into the probably non-existent (but should definitely exist) group of EPIC GROOVE.  Imagine a salad composed of all varieties of groove lettuce available, topped with bacon groove bits and groove croutons, dressed heavily in a groove vinaigrette - that should give you a close idea.  Their name literally translates to “groove” (in some language that is probably just as groovy).  Although their studio content is groovy af as well, Surco is a dish best served live.  Combined with a vibrant light show, continuous jams, and impressive improv shredding, you can’t help but get lost in the groove.  You can catch these fellas at most of the major midwestern cities and more but keep an eye and ear out - they’re sure to be melting faces off in further lands before long.  Funk with these doods.  You’ll be glad you did.

TimelessCorridor.jpg

TIMELESS CORRIDOR

Spotify | Facebook

Timeless Corridor sounds like what you might imagine dreams sound like. They blissfully weave together music that feels like it would translate into some wild geometric pattern in a color that hasn’t been discovered yet. Perfect for losing yourself in, Timeless Corridor’s music really does stand up to its name. Words don’t really do any of their albums justice but you won’t need words anyway - these boys are straight jam. Make sure you give these guys a listen the next time you wander around in nature, go for a long drive, work through your morning yoga routine, or are lying restless in bed at 3:00 AM. Some music is great for easing your mind or even your feelings. Timeless Corridor will ease your whole day.
